What it’s all about
Without translators, there would be no world literature – they make writing accessible for readers from different languages and cultures, and work to disseminate it.
And yet they often remain invisible. Their names are frequently not included on book covers, they are rarely mentioned in reviews, and translation fees are low.
What we want to achieve
We’re campaigning for publishers to make translators visible and name them everywhere the original authors are mentioned. That shows appreciation and costs publishers neither money nor effort.
At Translation House Looren, we’re working with our partner organisations for greater visibility and recognition for translators.
Darum geht's
Ohne Übersetzerinnen und Übersetzer gäbe es keine Weltliteratur – sie machen Texte zugänglich für Lesende unterschiedlicher Sprachräume und Kulturen und setzen sich für ihre Verbreitung ein.
Dennoch bleiben sie oft unsichtbar. Ihre Namen erscheinen häufig nicht auf dem Buchcover, sie werden selten in Rezensionen erwähnt und ihre Honorare sind bescheiden.
Das wollen wir erreichen
Wir setzen uns dafür ein, dass Verlage Übersetzerinnen und Übersetzer sichtbar machen und sie überall dort nennen, wo die Autorinnen und Autoren der Originale aufgeführt sind. Das zeigt Wertschätzung und bedeutet für die Verlage keinen Mehraufwand.
Das Übersetzerhaus Looren engagiert sich gemeinsam mit seinen Partnerorganisationen für mehr Sichtbarkeit und Anerkennung von Übersetzerinnen und Übersetzern.

Sans les traductrices et les traducteurs, il n’y aurait pas de littérature mondiale – ils rendent les textes accessibles aux lectrices des différents espaces linguistiques et cultures, et s’engagent pour leur diffusion.
Pourtant ils restent souvent invisibles. Leurs noms n’apparaissent pas toujours sur la couverture du livre, ils sont rarement mentionnés dans les critiques et leurs honoraires sont modestes.
Ce que nous voulons atteindre
Nous militons pour que les éditeurs améliorent la visibilité des traductrices et des traducteurs en les nommant partout où figurent les autrices et auteurs de l’original. C’est une marque d’estime qui n’entraîne aucun surcroît de travail pour les maisons d’édition.
Le Collège de traducteurs Looren s’engage avec ses différents partenaires pour une meilleure visibilité et reconnaissance des traductrices et des traducteurs.

Sin traductoras ni traductores no habría literatura universal: hacen que los textos sean accesibles para lectores de diferentes regiones lingüísticas y culturas y se comprometen con su difusión.
Sin embargo, a menudo permanecen invisibles. Sus nombres no suelen aparecer en las portadas de los libros, rara vez se los menciona en las reseñas y su remuneración es muy modesta.
Esto queremos conseguir
Estamos haciendo campaña para que las editoriales visibilicen a sus traductoras y traductores, para que sus nombres aparezcan siempre que se mencione al autor o autora del texto original. Esto implica un reconocimiento de su tarea y no supone trabajo adicional.
Junto a otras instituciones con las cuales suele cooperar, la Casa de Traductores Looren promueve así una mayor visibilidad y reconocimiento de quienes traducen literatura.
Questa è la situazione
Senza traduttrici e traduttori non ci sarebbe letteratura mondiale. È grazie a loro che i testi raggiungono i lettori in differenti spazi linguistici e culture, e sono inoltre loro a impegnarsi per la diffusione di quei testi.
Eppure rimangono spesso invisibili. I loro nomi appaiono di rado sulle copertine dei libri, accade frequentemente che non siano menzionati nelle recensioni e i loro compensi sono molto modesti.
Questo vogliamo ottenere
Noi ci impegniamo perché le case editrici rendano visibili le traduttrici e i traduttori nominandoli ovunque siano indicatati gli autori e le autrici dei testi originali. Sono segnali di apprezzamento che non comportano nessun aggravio per gli editori.
La Casa dei traduttori Looren, insieme alle organizzazioni con cui collabora, promuove una maggiore visibilità e il riconoscimento di traduttrici e traduttori.

Anniversary of the James Joyce Foundation in Zurich
The Zurich James Joyce Foundation celebrates its 40th anniversary! It was established in 1985 with a view to keeping alive the memory and work of the Irish writer James Joyce for the literary world in general, and in particular for Zurich, where Joyce spent some important creative years. The Translation House Looren is also going to be present when the celebrations take place on 13th September.
Babel 2025
Babel è il festival letterario centrato sulla traduzione, sia in senso stretto – scrittori legati a più lingue e culture a dialogo con i loro traduttori italiani, laboratori di traduzione, traduzioni tra le arti e pubblicazione di libri – sia come metafora di ospitalità linguistica, attraversamento e incontro. Nel 2025 Babel compie vent’anni e li festeggia con le lingue che lo hanno formato e ne hanno ispirato la ricerca nella traduzione e nel plurilinguismo: l’italiano – origine e approdo –, che diramandosi in Ticino raggiunge i suoi confini naturali e valicabili, e le altre lingue svizzere – francese, tedesco, romancio – con cui, sfiorandosi e compenetrandosi, disegna e ridisegna geografie linguistiche e letterarie dai caratteri unici e condivisi, fertili e aperte, in costante ridefinizione. Il festival si svolgerà dall'11 al 14 settembre a Bellinzona.
